At Oakbank Animal Hospital, we offer a wide range of on-site blood tests and other laboratory services such as urinalysis, fecal exams, ear/skin cytology and fine needle aspirates. Most of these tests yield same-day results. We also may send samples to an outside veterinary laboratory for more detailed testing.
Why is it important to perform blood tests for dogs?
Blood tests are important as they can aid your veterinarian in accessing your dog’s overall health. Typically, your veterinarian will recommend a blood test before any general anesthetic to assist in appropriate dosing and prescribing of long-term medications and to assess organ function. Blood tests can also be used to detect viral diseases, immune diseases and infections.
How do I interpret my dog’s blood test results?
Your veterinarian will interpret the blood values and discuss any significant findings with you. This will help to formulate the best treatment options for your pet.
With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that the restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted. We are still providing the same excellent patient care that we always have, but with some changes to our operating policies.
